THE DECISION, THE JOURNEY, THE FINISH.
What starts as a simple decision can become something much bigger. For Nando Baumann and Ronny Sutter, that decision was to take on their first long-distance triathlon together: Challenge Roth.
Neither of them knew exactly what the months ahead would demand. What they shared was a goal — and the willingness to commit to it. From that moment on, training became part of everyday life and the countdown to Roth had begun.
The film starts here, not with the race itself, but with the choice to pursue something that still feels far away.
The road to Roth was measured in more than kilometres. Countless hours of swimming, cycling and running had to fit alongside everyday life, work, relationships and everything else that does not stop simply because you have set yourself a goal.
Throughout the journey, we followed Nando and Ronny through training sessions, conversations, difficult moments and small victories. The camera stays close to both athletes, capturing not only their physical preparation but also the friendship and mutual motivation behind the challenge.
As race day gets closer, the question shifts from “Can we do this?” to “Are we ready?”
Challenge Roth is where everything comes together. The early mornings, long training sessions, sacrifices and doubts lead to a single day — 3.8 kilometres of swimming, 180 kilometres on the bike and a marathon to finish.
But The Things We Choose is not simply about completing those distances. Race day becomes the culmination of everything that happened before it: two individual journeys connected by one shared goal.
Crossing the finish line marks the end of the challenge, but also puts the journey into perspective. Ultimately, the film asks what we are willing to choose, sacrifice and commit to — and how those choices shape who we become.
